It may seem counter-intuitive when it comes to selling your house in the winter. But the truth is that you can sell your home even when it is cold outside and you may actually get more money for it as well since there is typically less competition in the winter because people don’t like listing homes with snow on the ground. What follows are some helpful tips that will help you sell your house much faster than your competition in the winter.

Clean Up Your Home

This is a rather obvious piece of advice, but it is one that can help make the sale. You’ll want to ensure that the inside of the home and the property outside are properly cleaned and free from any clutter. You may even want to let fresh air into the home by opening windows 30 minutes before a showing so that the house doesn’t have a stale air feel.

Clear Off the Driveway, Walk Areas and Gutters

This is not only important for the appearance of your home, but in making sure that people who visit it are safe from slipping on the snow or ice. Make sure the gutters are clear and no ice dams have formed.

Use Appropriate Decor

If it is not yet Christmas, then be sure to properly decorate the home in that manner. If it is past the Christmas season, you’ll want to maintain a warm, cozy feeling for your home. If you have a fireplace, make sure you have a fire, put some fresh baked cookies on the stove and have soft music playing to create that inviting feeling.

Open the Curtains

You’ll want to let the light in when showing off your home, so be sure that the curtains are opened. You also may want to turn on the lights in any darkened areas as well to help create the right feeling for your home that compliments the decor that you have arranged.

Add a Few Plants

A little touch of green here and there creates a great way to brighten up and otherwise gloomy day that may be happening outside. A few of the right plants can help brighten up the inside of your home. You can even make your outside greener by placing potted firs, pines, and spruce trees.

Price Your Home Right

You’ll want to price your home a little below market value so that you bring the largest pool of buyers through the home.  This may create competition and can sometimes lead to bidding wars and receiving offers over asking price, even in the winter!  Read How TV Teaches Us To Sell a Home
