One of the biggest obstacles to realizing your dreams in life is the negativity that is founded in you and others along the way. It seems like every time you set out to take a risk in life there are those who are preaching to you not to do it. From planting the seeds of doubt to telling you straight to your face that it is a bad idea, it must be remembered that most people who tell you “don’t do it” have your best interests at heart.

Overcoming negativity is not as easy as it might seem. After all, they are just words and your actions should be able to overcome what people say. But to overcome negativity is a tough struggle and you will have to focus your mind and efforts in order to succeed.

Here are five tips that will help you in your struggle in overcoming negativity, just remember it is a battle that you will fight a little at a time.

Re-Read Your Vision Every Day

You need to write down what you want to accomplish and then re-read it on a daily basis. You should start off your morning by quickly reviewing what you want to accomplish in the short and long term. Then, if you are having doubts to go back and re-read it again. This way, your resolve will be strengthened and it will help you resist the forces that try to hold you back.

Use the Negative Thoughts as Teaching Elements

Instead of looking for reasons why you shouldn’t pursue your dream, instead look at the criticism as teaching moments of what to avoid so that you can fulfill your expectations. Understand that most people who criticize are trying to protect you from getting hurt. However, you will have to risk that in order to succeed. So take their advice carefully, but do not heed their call to stop when you know what must be done. This is why overcoming negativity is never easy, but you can actually learn from those telling you to stop.

Understand What Advice to Take

If you needed parenting advice, you would go to a parent. So why do people who have no experience in what you are trying to do think they know better? If you take financial advice from someone who is broke, you will likely go broke! It’s one of the ironies in life that will help you find a little perspective when someone who has no idea what they are talking about is telling you they know better.

Strengthen your Resolve

Eventually, you will get to the point where the naysayers do not affect you at all. Until then, you will have to shoulder the pain of what they are telling you. However, this is your life and you will have to listen to what drives your dream to succeed. You should read or watch something that will help you overcome obstacles on a daily basis like reading the book Rich Dad’s Success Stories by Robert Kiyosaki. Remember, this is a battle that you will have to face on a daily basis!

Find Someone You Can Trust

You should seek out someone who shares your vision and perhaps has been down this road before so that you can take their advice. If you want to be wealthy, find someone who is where you want to be now and find out what made them successful. The more you surround yourself with positive people, the more likely it will be that you will reach your dream.

Overcoming negativity is never easy, but it can be done if you take the right steps to recognize those who are holding you back and only taking advice from those who have done this before and are encouraging you to succeed.
